Research & Innovation

Research activities at KFUPM are aligned & guided by the needs of the Kingdom, and thus have created a strong research base, and is recognized for solving critical scientific and technical problems as well as turning knowledge into practice.

At KFUPM, there are 16 Research Centers: IRC (Interdisciplinary), ARC (Applied), JRC (Joint)

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program Objectives:
Attract outstanding postdoctoral researchers, specifically Saudi (male or female), in research areas of national priorities and that are aligned with IRCs themes.
• Maintain excellence in research and boost the quality of conducted research to have an enabling and well-resourced environment for faculty and researchers.
• Empower IRCs research activities by attracting talented postdoctoral fellows.
• Create a competitive environment among centers and faculty to achieve high-impact research

KIKX: KFUPM Institute for Knowledge Exchange

Program Objectives:
• Highlighting the advanced research capabilities of the university and motivating faculty members and researchers to share their achievements with their peers in distinguished research fields, which will contribute to increasing the prestigious reputation of KFUPM.
• Attracting internationally distinguished researchers to attend and interact with KFUPM faculty, researchers and graduate students.
• Providing opportunities for cooperation between university professors and researchers with local and international distinguished researchers, which enhances the university's research position and reputation and opens new horizons for graduate students.
• Take advantage of these distinguished scientific meetings to identify research challenges and paths with great scientific impact.

Student Conference Program

This program aims to enable our graduate students to contribute to their research fields by presenting their findings in renowned flagship conferences outside the Kingdom. This will enhance the visibility of the university and give an opportunity to our graduate students to interact with other researchers in related domain. The award is competitive and will encourage the graduate students to submit their work in their areas of research.

Proof-of-Concept Program

Program Objectives:
To push innovative research outcomes through the path of commercialization.
• To improve the level and quality of technology commercialization in the university through the provision of funding for early stage development activities.
• Help in identifying route to commercialization and securing a route (if one exists).
• De-Risk (or perception of risk) the technology to commercial partners or investors.

Prototyping Support for IRCs and Non-Funded KFUPM Students & Faculty Members

Program Objectives:
• This program aims to support KFUPM faculty, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students in purchasing direct consumable and supplies for their projects.

High Performance Computing Core Lab

Program Objectives:
• Accelerate the pace and scale of research by offering a need-basis computational resources for all researchers within KFUPM.
• Minimize idle time of computational resources in funded projects.
• Establish KFUPM as a centralized hub for computationally intensive research within the kingdom.
